A Typical Classroom

project: Renderings of the renovation of an existing Chicago Public School building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building has fallen into severe disrepair over the years that it has been vacant. It will be enlivened once more by the Field School as it expands from their current campus next door.
location: Austin neighborhood of Chicago, IL
role: furniture, lighting, entourage, materials, and rendering
team:  SEEK Design + Architecture - base building model by others, some interior detailing by Alison Newmeyer
This is the current condition of the school. The paint is peeling, and there haven't been students there for years, but there are hints of life still left in the existing woodwork and big, beautiful windows. The vision is to restore the school to its former beauty, revitalize the existing woodwork, add new flooring and light fixtures, and repaint the walls.
More information on the project can be found at The Field School's website.
